Kicking off the night was Taipei’s very own Flux. This self-dubbed “indietronica” band was unknown to me, but clearly not to the audience, as their opening song was met with ecstatic applause. Combing sky-scraping reverb drenched guitar tones, post-punk-meets-disco-bass lines, 90’s house drum beats and EDM-festival-ready synths, Flux is a tight band who embrace their hyper-pop tendencies at every corner. While most of the songs were sung in Chinese, there were a few songs sung in English, clearly displaying the band’s international aspirations.
